Note: to add files to the current playlist press the "Option" (alt) key during Drag & Drop.

When I add a cue file to the current playlist, it just add the cue file's own, and can not add the actual songs.

i hope in the future you can achieve gapless without resampling as i'm pretty sure vobis and flac (ape?) are native gapless formats, as opposed to mp3 which encodes gaps in the header, in the encoding process. something like that.

this puppy is getting better every new release.

It looks like your dev blog is not the good place to post and get an answer, so...

I currently load AU plug-ins in Audio Hijack and use Vox 027 as front end player. Since 028b1, we're able to load AU whitin Vox. What a great feature! But, there's no way to save the set of added plug-ins on quit (unless I didn't find it). Running through the whole AU adding/editing process on each launch is a tedious task, imho.

Outside of this, Vox becomes better and better, at no cost of it's incredible simplicity, which makes it the easiest yet powerfull compact music player on the Mac. Congrats! The interface windows color prefs tweak is sooo cool and so easy to match with any background... Love it! (Compliments about the interface might sound a bit cheesy though, in regard of all your hard work on the audio abilities!)

yeah, i agree. i tried the apple eq but having to configure it at every launch made me use the built-in one again.
i also noticed that when i save a preset within an audio unit it shows up fine in the dropdown menu and i can load it by clicking on it but the preset button always shows 'custom' and not the selected preset name.

Loading .aif files that I've exported from Reason crashes the app. It maybe the bit rate or something, because certain other .aif files will play.

Gapless playback is working nicely, but I've noticed a couple of new problems:

1. Every now and then, Vox will fail to play the last track in a folder. It'll load the file and the window will look like this:



...but the track won't play and the elapsed time won't change. If I hit pause and then play, it starts playing.

2. Vox crashes when loading some folders. I haven't been able to isolate the cause, but I've attached a log of one such crash.

Also, I can confirm the Reason-exported .aif crashes yoshimura is experiencing. These are 16-bit integer, big endian, stereo 44.1kHz files according to QuickTime, but other (not exported from Reason) such files seem to play fine.

If there's any other potentially helpful information I can provide, please tell me. :)

I'm already working on this, but will be probably implemented after the 0.2.8 final release.
Anyway, there is no resampling when the source file and the output resample setting are the same.

I was using the same "workflow" in the PPC era, and I want it in Vox too.
I'm improving the Audio Support at every release of 0.2.8 beta, and reloading the last used Audio Units will be implemented in the next dev release.

So far it has always been the last track, yes. The tracks are separate FLACs.

In Vox beta2 dragging in a folder gives me an alias arrow sign then Error
Handle Error
whereas in beta1 I can drag in a folder (getting the green +) and play it like an album, with no prob with FF REW functions. Seems ok with the last track also.
Still playing with the betas.

help, please, can't figure out how to add mp3-files to current playlist

if i drag and drop file to dock icon or on Vox window (or open via File->Open menu) that already plays some song it removes currently playing song from playlist and starts playing new dropped file. the black link arrow is displayed when file is dragged over the Vox window.

even tried to add files with different Opt, Shift and Cmd buttons pressed, the same effect

So in fact, you just have to hold alt and drag the files on Vox Window (it's not possible with folders though)

When dragging with alt (option) pressed on Vox interface,, you'll see a green little "+" sign

But cause of problem was that if activate Vox window (click on it) first and than click mp3 file in Finder with Opt button pressed, Vox window disappears (so it is impossible to complete add action in such an obvious way )

First of all I wish to thank you for the great app and all the efforts you are putting into its dev process. It is my app of choice as a music player. In fact I am not using iTunes since Apple started to bloat it with features like Ping. I've read loads of good reviews on MacUpdate and started to use VOX 0.2.7.

As I saw that there are so many new features in new (still beta) version of VOX - I've moved to 0.2.8 beta 1. I got some crashesh and went back to 0.2.7.1. Now I am back again with 0.2.8 beta 2 finding it way more stable than 0.2.8 beta 1 was. It seems like I am a lucky gyu to not experience the crash while drag/dropping a folder in the VOX window like another forumer did. Either I am not having problem playing the last FLAC file in my folder.
Since I started using 0.2.8 beta 2 about 24 hours ago I just got only one crash and of course I am posting the log file of crash to you in order to do my part of the work in dev progress. You will find the crash file attached in the bottom of my message. What actually provoked it was that VOX was playing a song from my Trance music library (in fact this is my style of choice) and I clicked to start another one : Kyau & Albert - Not With You. This provoked a VOX app crash. The second time I tried to run the same song - it loaded and played successfully in VOX.
Here comes the log attached.

I try to have small windows when i add files so even if i click on one mp3 to add it, Vox will stay on screen since no window can mask it.

I've forgotten to ask more info about this issue: when the "custom" preset is selected, is it switched back from a user saved preset and/or a factory preset, and the used Audio Unit is from Apple or third party? Is the real preset always loaded except from the displayed title text? I've tried different combinations of AUs and presets but I can't reproduce this problem.

About the AIFF issue, it's fixed for the next dev release.

@chillvisio: the attached file is just a link to the real crash log; please post the real file, it's located in "../DiagnosticReports/Vox_2011-01-18-033227_Mac-mini-de-chillvisio.crash" from the link file.

No, Vox window did not intersect any window on screen - only Vox and Finder on empty desktop. It's a stange but if I activate Vox window and than click on any window on desktop while holding Opt key, Vox window dissapears - hides better to say as if i ALT-TAB to Vox it appears again on desktop. Other applications windows has no such behaviour.

That's strange, i can't replicate this behaviour here, i just did what you described and Vox windows stay in place, even if there are no windows shown on screen. I can option-drag anything without Vox disappearing.

Did you try Vox preferences? especially the "interface tab". There are some settings related to windows behaviour. If you tick "show windows on top", Vox will stay on top, even if you click on a finder window.

this is known as 'single app mode' in os x. pressing option and switching apps by clicking on their windows or dock icons, hides all other apps, so you get just the clicked app visible on screen.

like tld said, it only works with files, not folders and doesn't work if you release over vox's icon in the dock, just works when released in vox's window.
you can add files to the playlist like this:

1. use tld's suggestion and use vox always on top.

2. select the files you want in finder, press option, drag them to vox's dock icon, wait for the window to come to the foreground and then release the files over vox's window.

3. select the files you want in finder, start dragging, press command-tab to vox's icon, press option and keep it pressed before you release the command key, release the files over vox's window.

this is kinda tricky because i just tested it and it worked fine.
on my first test, what i did was to add apple augraphiceq (defaults to custom), set the knobs, saved it as 'seagull'. the displayed title text remained 'custom' and each time i clicked on 'seagull' in the preset dropdown it remained 'custom' but the preset was loaded.

maybe it was because it was the first preset saved, i don't know, today it's working fine.

i just tested another 3rd party au called artillery2 from sugarbytes and everytime i clicked a preset from the preset dropdown (not from the native edit window), the displayed title text changed to another different preset but the right preset i cliked on was loaded.

after relaunhcing vox it worked fine.

it's hard to track down this issues, if you have the time and a bunch of audio units just try to mess around, add, save, remove, add again. maybe it has to do with the settings on gui refresh (i have set it to slow) because the presets always load.

Sleep issue still exist in Vox 0.2.8 beta 2, any chances to overcome it???
I like to sleep while music is playing, but after it ends my MacPro is still powered on.
Log says the Vox is a reason.

ok, i see! didn't know this feature... thought in my system only last active window is hide when switching to another app with Opt pressed.

When dragging file to Dock icon it blinks a while and than desktop dims and all windows hides including Vox if it was visible. if Vox was hidden before it doesnt' appear.
If than remove now-dropped file from Dock icon and back it to Dock icon again (or drop on dimmed desktop) all windows restore their states including Vox.

I tried different combinations in preferences for On top, On all spaces and Remember position - the behaviour is the same.

It's strange that Vox is not shown when commanding "All windows" to Expose.
